Water Quality
The Maryland Forest Service restores, manages, and protects Maryland’s trees, forests, and forested ecosystems to sustain our natural resources and connect people to the land.
To accomplish this, we work with private, public, and non-profit landowners to assist with forest stewardship planning, tree planting, invasive species management, and a host of other services.

ACWA is a volunteer-based group, passionate about connecting people to their waterways through recreation, education, and conservation. Since 2006, ACWA has worked in partnership with local governments, State of Maryland, non-profits, and others to organize trash cleanups, plant trees, monitor water quality, and offer environmental education opportunities throughout Washington County. Through these collaborative projects ACWA has facilitated numerous urban tree plantings, creek cleanups, and public meetings to showcase the importance of improving our local lands and waters.
Catoctin Land Trust works to save land and protect water in Washington and Frederick counties — the Heart of Maryland. As a land trust, CLT helps landowners navigate conservation options for their land, and connects with the programs and partners that help them preserve their land in perpetuity. We also help connect landowners with conservation practices that restore watersheds and protect drinking water supplies. Catoctin Land Trust is the host partner of the Heart of Maryland Conservation Alliance, a network of partners collaborating to preserve land and restore watersheds.

The farms, forests, streams, Civil War sites and heritage of The Middletown Valley and Catoctin Watershed are critically important and under constant pressure to be developed. Our mission is to preserve them before before it's too late.
We also are working to create a trail system across and down the Middletown Valley to connect the Appalachian and Catoctin Trails, with the towns of Middletown, Myersville, Burkittsville and Brunswick to provide safe and healthy outdoor places for residents and visitors alike to experience our rich agriculture heritage and civil war history.
