At the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, our mission is to save the Bay and its waterways by educating, uniting, and inspiring people to take action. Since our founding in 1966 as a private, citizen-based organization with the motto Save the Bay™, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation has grown from just a few staff and members to a major regional force advocating for clean water, environmental education, and Bay restoration.

The Western Maryland Resource Conservation and Development Council’s (WMRC&D) mission is to build and sustain resource conservation programs which raise the quality of social, economic, and environmental development in our region. The WMRC&D Council was incorporated in 1993 to represent Garrett, Allegany, Washington, Frederick, and Carroll counties in Maryland. The Council is locally driven by representatives from the counties’ Board of Commissioners, Soil Conservation Districts, municipalities, grassroots organizations, and interested members at large. With over thirty years as an established council, the WMRC&D will continue to serve the residents of the five-county area and beyond in assisting them with addressing their economic, social and environmental concerns.

Mobilize Frederick was established by many members of the Workgroup to implement the report’s proposed solutions. Our first-year efforts paid off. Frederick County has allocated $3.7 million to start an Office of Climate and Energy and to expand existing programs, such as home weatherization, solar installations, and fleet electrification. The City of Frederick has also increased its budget for climate-related programs and funded a study of a “Green Bank” to finance cleaner technologies for low-income households, farms, and small businesses. Governments alone cannot achieve the goal. There must also be community-wide collaboration.
DEE's mission is to empower Frederick County with resilient, equitable solutions to environmental challenges. The Division of Energy and Environment partners with our community to mitigate climate risks, enhance watershed quality, modernize energy systems, and ensure that sustainability is for everyone. The Department of Stormwater provides ecologically responsible management of the County's portion of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Structured by Maryland's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit, this work includes water quality monitoring, watershed restoration, pollutant reduction, and stormwater infrastructure enhancement.

ACWA is a volunteer-based group, passionate about connecting people to their waterways through recreation, education, and conservation. Since 2006, ACWA has worked in partnership with local governments, State of Maryland, non-profits, and others to organize trash cleanups, plant trees, monitor water quality, and offer environmental education opportunities throughout Washington County. Through these collaborative projects ACWA has facilitated numerous urban tree plantings, creek cleanups, and public meetings to showcase the importance of improving our local lands and waters.
SilvoCulture's goal is to help plant one million nut trees. Started in 2019 as a response to a world of rapidly changing climates and vulnerable economies, we promote activities that provide stable ecologies and financial security for future generations. Tree crops, especially nuts, can be a stable backbone for building perennial economies, soil health, clean water, habitats, dependable employment, and niche market opportunities. To do this, we partner with property owners seeking a long-term investment, farmers seeking access to land, investors seeking new economic growth opportunities, orcharding systems, mixed timber investors, perennial food markets and product development, and value-added real estate planners. We have specific programs to 1) support nut tree establishment, maintenance, and harvesting, and 2) set up infrastructure such as nurseries and cooperatives for processing and marketing nut tree products.
