The Central Maryland Heritage League was founded in 1989 to promote the cultural, historical, and natural heritage of the Middletown Valley. CMHL’s mission is to advocate, encourage, and enhance public awareness of this heritage through the conservation, interpretation, preservation and stewardship of the resources contributing to the South Mountain State Battlefield and its surrounding area. CMHL owns Dahlgren Chapel, the private family chapel of Madeleine Vinton Dahlgren, built in 1881 and located atop South Mountain, and is the steward of Dr. Austin A. Lamar’s Surgical Suite and Medical Museum in downtown historical Middletown. The group also holds easements on several properties.
By the way, Dahlgren Chapel is a popular venue for weddings!
