Catoctin Land Trust, a local nonprofit land conservancy that has protected nearly 3000 acres in Frederick County and Western Maryland, has announced the recipients of its first Conservation Legacy awards. The awards will be presented at reception to be held at Fox Haven Farm and Learning Center, from 6:30 until 8:15pm on Thursday, October 10. The public is invited.
Catoctin Land Trust (CLT) will honor the career of Anne Bradley, recently retired Land Preservation Program Administrator for Frederick County, with its 2024 Public Service Award. Frederick County has preserved nearly 78,000 acres of farmland and adjacent woodlands, among the most successful program in Maryland. “Anne Bradley is one of the most beloved public servants I have ever met and worked with,” said CLT executive director David Lillard. “Under her leadership, Frederick County’s land preservation program was praised as one of the best in the nation.”
Harriett Crosby, a conservation champion who has purchased and preserved lands of incredible ecological importance throughout Frederick County and beyond, will receive the CLT Founder’s Award. Harriett is also the founder of Fox Haven Farm. “Most of us know Harriett Crosby through Fox Haven, a true Frederick County gem for learning about and enjoying the natural world,” Lillard said. “But she’s done so much more than that. Over many years, she has quietly, relentlessly, preserved parcels large and small to protect the nature and the ecosystems on which our lives depend.”
Refreshments will be provided by Renaissance Chef; beer, wine, and other beverages will be provided. “We welcome all friends and community members to come learn more about Catoctin Land Trust and the work we do,” added CLT board chair Bryan Seipp.
The event is free to the public, but registration is required. RSVP at https://catoctinlandtrust.org/event/conservation-legacy-2024.
