On May 20, HMCA partner the Appalachian Trail Conservancy issued updated guidance for home-weary outdoorspeople eager to hit the trail for a much-needed reconnection with the “wild side” of the Heart of Maryland. The A.T. traverses our region along South Mountain from the C&O Canal to Pennsylvania along the Washington-Frederick county line. It visits historic areas like Gathland and Washington Monument state parks, along with scenic vistas like Annapolis Rock and White Rocks — along with assorted other “rock-named” overlooks. While ATC continues to recommend staying at home and staying away from the A.T., in recognition of the current dynamic situation, ATC offers a science-based approach to safety for whom the draw is too strong. Read the recommendations here.
